There was a dead mouse in our front flower bed that for some morbid reason I never buried, so my daughters got to see firsthand what teh decay process is like, and it seemed to fascinate them. Weaver went out with them a couple weeks ago and found it's bones and beautiful, delicate little skull lying there in the dirt, so they brought in a few choice bones and we cleaned them with alcohol. Neato stuff.

Wed, December 22, 2004 - 9:25 AMIsn't it amazing how children in their most innocent ways find something like what you've described so facinating. Yet others would consider yours and their actions bizarre or weird? I think it's human nature at it's finest. Bravo -

Re: dead mouse and my kids
Wed, December 22, 2004 - 10:08 AMThank you... it was a valuble lesson for them in the circle of life kind of way. To see the way the body goes back to the earth seemed to be a comfort to them. I feel the more they know, the less unprepared for life they will be, yannow? It's unfortunate that we would be considered weird when it was such a fascinating moment...

Wed, December 22, 2004 - 12:06 PMThat is such a great story.
The decay process is so beautiful. I'm really glad your children were able to see it.
I think it will give them such a deeper understanding of the circle as well.
